  • Global logistics redesign and outsourcing for major textile manufacturer.

Outsourcing complex network of transportation, dedicated fleet operations, international freight forwarding, warehousing and distribution was key element of company's strategic plan to refocus on manufacturing and product design. Led client team in developing business requirements and strategic blueprint, identifying and qualifying potential providers, selecting and negotiating contracts and "shared savings" programs, and executing transition plans over a full year period. Result: combination of leading providers in US, Mexico and Asia was put in place to provide integrated supply chain management to support company's strategy, provide superior information systems capabilities and tools, and drive increased efficiencies. Significant improvement in global capabilities achieved, with projected 10% net cost savings.

  • Process reengineering in production planning, scheduling, and forecasting for a brand name textiles and apparel manufacturer.

Project involved developing and implementing new "world class" approaches and techniques to help provide improved order fulfillment at lower costs in an environment of changing market demands.  Result: 30 to 60% reduction in cycle times, $50 MM inventory reduction, 2 to 4 percentage point gain in return on investment, and improved customer service.

  • Product and customer profitability segmentation for a wholesale food company, using economic analysis and cost reallocation methodologies.

Used activity-based costing and process flow analysis techniques to determine how the company should change its market focus and pricing structure to improve profitability and market share.  Result: product repricing, salesforce refocusing, and operating process improvements, with 5 to 10 point increase in return on sales and stabilized market share.

  • Strategy assessment for an information technology services provider.

Reviewed client's product/service offerings in procurement, logistics and supply chain management in selected industry segments.  Identified key gaps versus market requirements and competitors and outlined a plan to close them.  Result: a refocused and better targeted product/service strategy with realignments in salesforce and service delivery organizations.

  • Management of multiple cross-functional purchasing and materials management teams chartered with achieving improvements as part of a U.S. railroad turnaround.

Project provided client staff with "on the job training" in negotiating, cost analysis, brainstorming, and other important business skills, as well as achieving cost/service improvement.  Result: project was "self-funding" within 60 days, yielded 5-30% improvements in targeted purchase categories, and substantially increased the department's day-to-day value-added.

  • Corporate travel program development for a new diversified consumer goods conglomerate.

Led a cross business unit team that had never worked together before to rapidly identify and execute cost and service improvements for the company's $100 million in travel-related spending.  New contracts were negotiated with preferred suppliers across all major travel spending categories - air, hotel, car rental, group travel, travel agency services, corporate charge cards, and related - and new travel policies and supporting procedures were put in place.  Result: nearly 10% savings overall, and paved the way for development of broader corporate shared services initiatives.
